From the Helm: Meet “Aqueous Solution” at the San Diego International Boat Show!

by

There is a specific kind of joy that comes from finding a yacht that feels twice its actual size. In my years of walking the docks at Sunroad Marina and beyond, I’ve seen many mid-size cruisers, but few master the “live-large” philosophy quite like the Carver C34 Command Bridge.

That is why I am absolutely thrilled to announce that our spectacular new listing, “Aqueous Solution,” will be making her grand appearance at the San Diego International Boat Show (SDIBS) from June 11-14!

This isn’t just an opportunity to see any cruiser—this is a rare chance to step aboard a one-owner, meticulously cared-for 2014 Carver C34 located right here in beautiful San Diego. If you are looking for a yacht that beautifully balances contemporary styling with rugged, reliable performance, this is the one you need to tour.

The “Right Fit” for the Modern Family

Whether you’re planning a fast run to Catalina or a slow, wine-and-cheese sunset cruise around San Diego Bay, this boat is designed for the way we actually live.

With a generous 13-foot beam, the interior volume is staggering for a 34-footer. It doesn’t just feel like a boat; it feels like a luxury waterfront condo. The master suite features an island double berth forward—a luxury you usually have to jump up to a 40-foot boat to find. Coupled with a guest cabin that easily converts from twins to a double, it’s the perfect setup for a family of four or a couple who loves to entertain overnight guests.

The Highlights: Why “Aqueous Solution” Stands Out

This isn’t just “another” production boat. This is a yacht that has been loved, protected, and upgraded with an incredible eye for detail.

  • Turn-Key Performance: Powered by reliable twin 300-hp MerCruiser engines and featuring a recently rebuilt generator, she is mechanically sound and 100% ready for the summer season.

  • The Command Bridge: The flybridge features a premium 4-sided Strataglass enclosure and a safe, molded staircase instead of those shaky, vertical ladders. It makes it easy and safe for the whole family to head upstairs and enjoy the view.

  • Fresh, High-End Interiors: From the brand new Leatherette salon upholstery to a gorgeous, handmade custom dining table, the interior feels remarkably crisp, modern, and inviting.

  • Meticulous Maintenance: The owner has truly gone above and beyond. She boasts new upholstery (cockpit, aft bridge lounge, and salon), a new Bimini top, fresh carpet runners, custom decorator pillows, new batteries, a new windlass foot switch, and even new engine room noise-reduction insulation for a peaceful cruise.

Come See Her on the Docks!

“Aqueous Solution” is ready for her next chapter, and show weekend is the perfect time to imagine yourself at the helm.

  • Dates: Thursday, June 11 – Sunday, June 14

  • Location: Safe Harbor Sunroad Marina, Harbor Island, San Diego, CA

The docks get incredibly busy during the show, and I want to make sure you get a chance to see the massive interior space for yourself without fighting the crowds. To schedule a private, dedicated showing with me aboard the boat, please reach out ahead of time!

See you at the show!

The Ultimate Waterfront Opportunity: Meet “Balena Blu”

by

By Leilani Wales, AGL Yacht Sales

In the world of yachting, we often talk about “finding the right fit.” Sometimes that means a high-speed sportfisher, and other times it means a sleek, modern cruiser. But every once in a while, a vessel comes across my desk that represents something else entirely: pure opportunity.

1972 Pacifica 48 Pilothouse Yacht AGL Yacht Sales

Today, I’m thrilled to introduce you to “Balena Blu” (affectionately known as Baby Beluga), a 1972 Pacifica 48’ Pilothouse Yacht.

If you’ve been dreaming of the liveaboard lifestyle or searching for a “waterfront condo” without the million-dollar price tag, you need to see this boat. Currently offered as a donation vessel to Scouting America with an asking price of just $15,250, she is quite literally the best value on the water right now.

Space Like You Wouldn’t Believe

The first thing you notice when you step aboard Balena Blu is the sheer volume. Originally commissioned as a 44’ Pacifica, she was professionally extended with a 4’ cockpit. That extra length transforms the entire feel of the boat, creating a wide-open platform that is perfect for entertaining, fishing, or just soaking up the San Diego sun.

Inside, the salon is a breath of fresh air. With 7-foot headroom and massive windows, it doesn’t feel like a boat—it feels like a home. There’s an L-shaped sofa, a dedicated desk/printer station for the remote workers among us, and a layout that flows naturally into the galley.

A True Two-Stateroom Layout

Privacy is often the first thing sacrificed on older boats, but not here. Balena Blu features two spacious staterooms:

  • The Master Cabin: Features a full/queen berth and plenty of storage.
  • The Forward Cabin: Perfect for guests, also featuring a queen-sized berth and its own flat-screen TV.
  • The Head: This is a game-changer—it includes a VacuFlush system and a separate, full-size shower. No “wet head” gymnastics required here!

For the Hands-On Owner

For my fellow gearheads, the engine room is a dream. It’s a rare stand-up engine room, meaning you can actually walk around and access the twin Detroit Diesel 6-71 engines (228 HP each) without breaking your back. Whether you’re a seasoned mechanic or a DIYer looking for a project with “strong bones,” this setup is incredibly rare for a vessel of this size.

Why “Balena Blu”?

Let’s be real: at $15,250, this is an entry-level price point for an incredible amount of boat. She is a running vessel, but she’s also the perfect candidate for someone who wants to customize their own floating retreat.

Whether you want to take her out to the islands or keep her tucked away as your private harbor-side sanctuary, Balena Blu offers character and functionality that you just can’t find in modern production boats.

Ready to see her for yourself?

Opportunities like this don’t last long, especially when they support a great cause like Scouting America.

Give me a call at (619) 323-1321 or shoot me an email at info@aglyachtsales.com. Let’s get you out on the water to see if Baby Beluga is the new home (or hobby) you’ve been looking for!

See you on the docks,

Leilani Wales

Making Waves: The Story of GEO and the Future of the Waterfront

by

Making Waves: The Story of GEO and the Future of the Waterfront

In 2019, a simple lunch between three colleagues—Leilani Wales, Dean West, and Peter Zaleski—sparked a conversation that would change the face of the California Yacht Brokers Association (CYBA). They asked a fundamental question: How can we make our industry more inclusive, more connected, and more reflective of the diverse community that loves the water?

The answer was GEO: Growth, Expansion, and Outreach.

Growth, Expansion and outreach with the CYBA.
The growth and outreach for the CYBA with Leilani Wales of AGL Yachts.

Now led by Chairwoman Leilani Wales, GEO has evolved from a lunch-table concept into a driving force for community and recognition within the maritime world.

More Than Just Brokers: A Mission of Inclusion

The vision for GEO was clear from the start: open the doors. While the CYBA is rooted in brokerage, the industry is powered by a massive ecosystem of professionals. GEO was designed to build bridges for everyone—from divers and mechanics to surveyors and administrative pros.

The GEO mission focuses on three pillars:

  • Growth: Increasing diversity and welcoming new members to the CYBA.
  • Expansion: Reaching out to women, youth, and minorities to showcase careers in recreational boating.
  • Engagement: Connecting with local communities through education, mentorship, and charity.

Building Camaraderie: The Marine Industry MeetUp

One of GEO’s first wins was the Marine Industry MeetUp. These quarterly gatherings, held at local restaurants, were designed to strip away the formality of “the office” and replace it with genuine connection.

“Sometimes we don’t know who’s on the other end of the phone,” says Leilani. “These MeetUps created real relationships—and that energy was contagious.” By putting faces to names, GEO helped turn a fast-paced industry into a tight-knit neighborhood.

Honoring the “Women of the Waterfront”

Perhaps the most impactful initiative to emerge from GEO is the Women of the Waterfront Award. For too long, the women keeping the industry afloat—whether in the engine room, the front office, or the boardroom—went under-recognized.

Women of the Waterfront Award
The Women of the Waterfront Award

This award changes the narrative. It honors women who exemplify leadership, integrity, and a commitment to the boating community.

Celebrating Our Recent Honorees:

  • 2023 – Bernadine Trusso (Dona Jenkins Maritime Documentation Service): Recognized for her unwavering integrity and precision in vessel documentation.1
  • 2024 – Kathy Ford (Reliable Documentation): Honored for her mentorship and her status as a standard-bearer for excellence in maritime service.

Diversity by the Numbers: The Changing Tide

The mission of GEO is more vital than ever when looking at the broader landscape of the industry. Historically, the maritime and recreational boating sectors have seen significant demographic gaps, but the tide is beginning to turn.

  • Women in Boating: According to the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), women now make up approximately 19% to 20% of boat owners, a number that has been steadily climbing.
  • Industry Leadership: While women hold roughly 15% of leadership roles in the broader maritime sector globally, initiatives like the Women of the Waterfront are designed to increase that visibility and encourage more women to enter the “C-suite” of the docks.
  • Economic Impact: Minority boat ownership is also on the rise. Research indicates that Hispanic and African American participation in boating has seen growth rates of nearly 10-15% in recent years as outreach programs expand.

Looking Toward the Horizon

GEO isn’t slowing down. Under Leilani’s leadership, the organization is currently working to strengthen its digital presence, ensuring the stories of female pioneers and industry leaders are preserved and shared to inspire the next generation.

As Leilani puts it: “Together, we are stronger—and through GEO, our waters are wide open for everyone.”

Join the Movement

Are you ready to be part of an inclusive future for the California boating industry? Whether you want to nominate a leader for the Women of the Waterfront Award or attend our next MeetUp, we want to hear from you.
